Physical DescriptionRaceKembar
GenderMale
Laegos, the Warlock, was the second chief of the Kembar after Zhē Drūmor. With Arbezmara and Doremil he created the Elves; but, desiring a people nearer to his own heart, he made Men in secret, for which reason they are most alike to him in demeanor, desire, and ambition.
The Warlock’s voice and speech are extremely convincing, and he finds it easy to sway the heart whichever way he pleases. It was for this, rather than for his physical power and might, that he was able to unite the Kembar and become their ruler in the midst of the First War. He’s very learned in the art of magic, only surpassed in skill by Doremil, who taught him much of what he knows.
During his reign, the Last War broke out amongst the Kembar, chiefly due to the division between him and Hesphek. He created the Werewolves and the Lathcats as scouts and spies for his war effort.
At some point after the Binding, Laegos and Hesphek allied with each other to reverse Doremil’s ritual, eventually succeeding in the Return of the Kembar.
From “Concerning the Kembar”
If Arbezmara is the most beautiful, then Laegos is handsomest. He is the lord of Werewolves and of cats; and Dragons, who love precious things as much as he, call him their father. And none can read hearts and minds so shrewdly as him. Of old he learned much from Doremil, considering their knowledge to be the most profitable of power. Indeed, he is well-lored in the nature of spirits, and coaxes them to his will with ease. A cunning sorcerer he is also, weaver of illusions, friend to shadows, spell-master; his enchantments endure long after the making.
But his most valued tool has ever been his smoothened tongue, for with it all that he says seems wise and agreeable; and ofttimes he will sweeten his words with truths and lies alike to gain another’s ear. In the engineering of his artifices, he finds no shame. Yet he does not advance his purposes by whisperings alone; for in the fullness of his skill he can make his speech ring great and valiant, such that the Children, and even some of the Kembar, might behold him as a captain and become compelled to follow him. Thusly did he rally the Kembar against the deceits of Gimīlhizar, when division seemed the rule, and under his leadership they assailed him. But his curse was not ended then, and in the years that followed many other evils were born, some from his darkness, some not, and Laegos could not prevent them.
