They had never forgotten the Gutter Wars though the years had lengthened, nor had they ever forgiven.”

Relkor or Westerland is the region in the northwest of Rhusagos, defined between the Sargāzat and Fost to the southeast, and the Sea of Regimen and the Watchwater in the north.

Its main inhabitants are the tribes of the Westermen (P. Relkhim), and all of its confines were once part of Regimen Māgor’s kingdom. But that country has weakened immensely, such that it is now known as the Once-Realm. Most of the events of the Gutter Wars transpired in Relkor.

History

Aforetime, Regimen Māgor ruled all the lands from Fost to the White Sea. The largest of the tribes that pledged fealty to him are as follows: the Wyrdans, the Crugonites, the Tyranthites, the Pēgae, and the Lazarenes; and each of those kindreds resides in the lands surrounding the Westwood, save the Tyranthites, who moved north of Lake Pēgaenār and mingled with Regimen’s folk. The tribes of Fost were allies of Regimen, but never his vassals.

In the fields east of the Sunny Mountains, Regimen raised a new city as a capital, and he named it Kingly Mickleburg (P. Māmīth Māgrīn). But those halls were not dwelt in long, for Daemar, his son, removed his seat to Summarch, preferring its nearness to the River Undaukhōr. Kingly Mickleburg is now a haunted place, overgrown and feared—none go there.

Regimen and his descendants fought the Gutter Wars against the Patrin; and of all nations, the Westermen were the only ones who ever repelled the armies of the Empire. But their victories were only victories in passing, for the Patrin did not tire of war, and the domain of Regimen diminished under a long defeat, so that now it is called the Once-Realm, its greatness lost; and it is hemmed in by Undaukhōr, Lake Pēgaenār, and the Sea of Regimen, which formerly were its heartlands.

In the year 1374 A.B., Rennick, Grandmaster of the Allhammers, revolted against Selwin the Last, whom he named Tyrant and Deceiver, and invested Summarch. Then his Allhammers assaulted the Seat, Selwin’s fortress, and marching into its throne room he seized Selwin, and hewed his feet out from under him, and then slew him.

In the wake of the siege, Rennick declared himself the new King of Westerland, and the tribes of the Westwood and Fost swore fealty to him. He now prepares for war with the Sargāzat and Alensis, desiring their ships.

Etymology

Relkor is made up of the elements rālek (“west”) and -(n)or, an archaic toponymic suffix.
