Thobrauk Tegendes, or the Pilot, is the member of the Kembar most closely associated with water and the sea. He is well-loved by all the Elder Children, and honored especially by the Trogmunders, whom he created.
Pon-Heth, the Leviathan Whale, whom he often turned to for wisdom, manages the depths while he rules over the waves.
He is famed for his skills as a warrior, as well as for having been the friendliest with the Elder Children before the Binding.
From “Concerning the Kembar”
Before his betrayal, Gimīlhizar worked most closely with Thobrauk, who holds authority over water. At the margins of ocean and sky, their two realms met, and by their partnership clouds and mists were formed, as well as rains to wash the land and feed the sea. Thobrauk is as quick to anger as he is to laughter; and his joy is in the willfulness of roiling waves, with which he feels a kinship in spirit. Every river is his messenger. Indeed, when he wishes, he can gather tidings at great speed; yet his decisions are hastier still, and often reckless.
Accounting for this, Thobrauk created his vicegerent Pon-Heth, the Leviathan Whale, whom he, with Doremil’s aid, fashioned as a counselor. She administers the movements of the deep, whither he goes rarely, and in all matters is his foremost advisor. Where Thobrauk is bold, she is calm; where he is unfettered, she is subdued; and where he is the voice of unquiet that stirs the heart to valor, hers is the soothing song in the lapping of the tides that eases the burdens of the weary, and helps the spirit to spin wisdom out of sorrow.
Tegendes, the Mighty, is Thobrauk’s most famed epithet; and well-chosen it is, for in battle his axe blade is said to froth with blood, as a breaking wave might be enveloped in sea foam as it crashes onto the shore. However, he rarely enters into war for its own sake, though he thrills in contests of arms, for he loves life, and regrets its loss. But he is a loyal friend, especially to the Children, and will rise ever to their defense if he perceives they are threatened.
