The Dwarves were made to endure, wherefore they are stone-hard, stubborn, fast in friendship and in enmity, and they suffer toil and hunger and hurt of body more hardily than all their Siblings. First to discover and carve gems, and to contrive mail of linked rings, the Bugfolk (as they are often called, for in truth they look more like insects than Men) are unparalleled masons and smiths. With patient craft, they wrought many famed weapons, armors, and treasures, among them the Kraken-Axe of Thobrauk Tegendes, and the crown Līzednīs, which was said to be as a rainbow in color. But while the Dwarves of today have surpassed their ancestors in mining and building, some of their skill in metalwork has been lost, for in times past they smithed with great magics, and all magic is fading.
