Throughout the history of Patrinor (or at least since the Patrin settled it), there have always been eight Māgosh (sg. Māgos), great Patrin city-states with much influence over the continent:
- Cyrikon is the most famous and splendid of all the Māgosh. Located in Rubea beside the Bight, it was the birthplace of Palagon Patermāgor, and was the capital of the Patrin Empire.
- Bōlkhar is the other Māgos of Rubea. It is well-known for its colorful dyes and textiles.
- Hordon, Drāmūz, Epēshu, and Tamaron are the Māgosh of the Leponnian Peninsula.
- Lepon was once the Māgos that oversaw the Marble Gulf before Epēshu. In the time of Tōs-Gither it was sacked by Gimīlahar and destroyed. The city is now largely abandoned.
- Gizalīs and Ākat command the eastern land of Makagos. They are both under the rule of the Eastern Patrin Empire
Etymology
The term Māgos (“city-state”) is derived from mā- (“augmentative prefix”) and agos (“land, country, region”), which meant something like “tribal land” or “hunting grounds” at the time the word was coined.
