GovernanceZhē Drūmor
Behind the walls of Mārosh Mālder lies the most foul and feared land of every age: Rankaros, Realm of Monsters, Island of Dark Ice, Hell. Within its confines, there are no lamps or fires, for Zhē Drūmor hated all things that make light, and he banished them from his holdings, whither they never returned.
History
From his icy land of Rankaros, Gimīlhizar, chief of the Kembar, governed his kingdom. There he could perceive much that went on within Nīmlad. The sky was his watchman, and he had as servants many spies to bear him news.
But then through envy and fear, he fell into shadow. Preparing for war, he created Mārosh Mālder as a defensive wall for his realm. Then he erected his mansions, and to create his armories, he dug exceedingly deep, so that his subterranean furnaces could use the heat of the Earth rather than employ any open flame. The first and greatest of his fortresses was Meldutha, home to hosts of demons, Witen, and other creatures.
The First War ended with the Great Battle, in which the host of the Kembar assailed Rankaros and overthrew Zhē Drūmor, who was forever imprisoned.
Etymology
Rankaros means “Frigid Land”. Its chief element is the adjective rankar (“ice-cold, freezing, frigid”).
