People and History
Pārāgōl is a shoreland region of Empheros along the Great Chasmous Sea, situated south of Nenog and between Lauda and Agos Laeker.
Description
Ruins and old jetties dot Pārāgōl’s coast-cliffs. It is a stormy, gray land, watered by wet winds from the sea and wrapped in mists. For that reason, it was once known as Nīmlaugos (the “Gray Land”), and its bays still keep the old name.
History
After fleeing the Wooded Mountain, the Patrin abided in the bays of Nīmlaugos for a time as they built their ships to pass over the sea. From there, they traveled across the Great Chasmous Sea to Phagal and, later, Patrinor. After their departure, they rechristened the land as Pārāgōl, which signifies “Escape.”
Etymology
Pārāgōl is a Classical Paternic word, being the masdar form of phārāg, pārāg (“to escape, evade, elude”).
Other Names
Nīmlaugos, the region’s previous name, means “Gray Land” in Classical Paternic, from nīmlauk (“blue-gray”) and -(g)os (a toponymic suffix, related to agos “land”).
