A Bireme Behind

The captain revealed to the party why he’d been glancing behind the ship over and over: a bireme was following them. He announced to his crew that they were to make double-time through the night, intent on escaping in the Paerāndas. The captain planned also to briefly land in a gulf of one of the islands to acquire desperately needed supplies and provisions.

The party also began their own preparations:

  • El started work on a ship-mounted ballista, anticipating ship-to-ship combat
  • Leon played magically-laced songs through the night to spirit the crew
  • Guantanamo secretly prepared depth charges for the pursuing ship to encounter, disguising them as discarded cargo. He was caught by Captain Lahar and chastised, but he deployed them nonetheless.

Unbeknownst to the party, this ship had been hired by the Ninth House to escort them to Patrinor, but Lahar’s superior seamanship meant they’d failed to catch up.

The Night Before Landfall

In the evening while smoking a cigar on the ship’s bow, Babar spied the glimmer of a large shell off in the distance. Seeing this, the captain explained to him that it was the shell of an animalfish, or great red krake. During their conversation, Babar’s suspicion of the captain grew immensely. He concluded that the man was hiding something from the party.

Below deck, Bunger (Frösted’s fairy dragon) fled from Guantanamo’s enchanted cloak, flashing emotions of fear and distress to Frösted regarding it.

The session ended just before landfall in the middle of the night
