Gands which have possessed the bodies of Men
Gands are baleful revenants, dead bodies (of all sorts) animated by evil spirits from the Void. Unless otherwise directed, they rarely stray from wherever they were first possessed (e.g., burial mounds, tombs, battlefields, shipwrecks). It is said that the Mad One, in one of his many black deeds, was the first to summon Gands into the world, desiring soldiers for his armies.
Few gands have more than a savage, animalistic intelligence on their own; however, when under the dominion of a greater will, their minds are made ant-like, slaved to the purposes of their master.
Being creatures of the Void, gands hate all forms of light, sunlight most of all.
Other Names
The Classical Paternic word for these creatures is gurmaur, wherein the suffix -(m)aur (“evil or distrusted group”) was appended to the word gurum (“death”).
Gand comes from the Old Norse gandr (“foul spirit, witch’s familiar, witchery”).
