People and History
Gurmakhar (“Hall of Passing”) is the dwelling of Doremil, the God of death. It is a land apart from the Wide World, built to house the spirits of the dead, for concerning them Doremil is held to be deepest in understanding. But Gurmakhar is only a resting place, for the spirits of the Children are transient and must depart from the universe eventually, to which they are but visitors; and whither they go or why even Doremil has not discovered.
It is said that Gimīlhizar sealed and set guards on all the ingresses into Gurmakhar from Rhusagos and Patrinor. There are rumors, however, of untouched entrances on the other side of the world, in the distant Moonless Lands of the Far West.
Other Names
Gurmakhar is translated as “Hall of Passing”. It is technically a shortening of the land’s full name Izlagurmakīmkhar, which means “Hall of Good and Bad Deaths”.
Some refer to Gurmakhar as Doremil after its creator and keeper.
